| World’s Largest Doll Shapes-up With AirPouch |
| |
AirPouch void fill pillows from Automated Packaging Systems are being used to support a 22 metre tall tarpaulin doll – the world’s largest – at ArtPrize in Michigan, US. Named La Grande Bébé, the Swedish artwork will be displayed outside Grand Rapid’s celebrated nightclub The BOB (Big Old Building) for the duration of the show.
Automated Packaging Systems’ AirPouch Express 3 Tabletop Void-fill System and AirPouch air pillows are being used to fill a 125 cubic metre void in the head and upper body of the doll. AirPouch, a compact all-electric unit, capable of producing air pillows at speeds of more than 15 linear metres per minute, was perfect for the job. The artists simply plug the unit in and start filling.
La Grande Bébé, the work of American artist Jonathan Haner and Swedish artist Teresa Holmberg, was created in Sibbhult, Sweden, and flown empty to the United States for its debut at ArtPrize. More than 1,200 artists are vying for the $250,000 grand prize.
After Holmberg recently learned that her artwork would go on its own 11-foot-high platform, she began searching for a filler-sponsor able to provide lightweight, durable filling material, which was essential for filling the head and upper body in a timely manner. Automated Packaging Systems offered to assist the artists with completing the display of the artwork, a doll four times larger than the previous holder to the title World’s Largest Doll.
“The artists chose air pillows for La Grande Bébé for some of the same reasons that our customers choose air pillows: they are clean and easy to use, and they weigh less,” says Mike Healey of Automated Packaging Systems. “The light weight pillows made handling the doll’s head easy and safe. And, of course, adding the void fill pillows on-site saves shipping costs. Automated Packaging Systems is pleased to support these artists and help present a novel contribution to ArtPrize this year.”. |
